Restaurant review – Blueberry Beacon Edenvale

It’s a legendary location in Edenvale, the 1610, which has housed quite a few different kid-friendly restaurants in the past (Spur, Malaguetta – don’t quote me on that spelling). Now it’s the Blueberry Beacon: a large space with plenty of seating and a massive area for kids to play. There are costumed performers who come out to cause a joyful stir among the younger patrons. A large playground and an exceptional amount of running around space make it as kid-friendly as kid-friendly can get.

If you’re an adult there’s a large selection of alcoholic drinks with deals on certain options. You can buy in bulk as well. Get a bottle brandy for the table or a 3L tower of beer. Those options typically reserved for the very wettest of watering holes. The goal obviously being to entertain the over 18s just as much as the under 18s. For the non-drinkers there are virgin options and the usual suspects in terms of soft drinks.

The menu almost matches the size of the location with a myriad of options from all sorts of cooking styles. Get street food, pub food, pizzas, eisbein and a bunch of other options (like the woodfired mushrooms in the picture above). I tried their chicken which was crispy and tender. Overall the food was good, although the burger bun definitely wasn’t brioche, and the service was friendly and attentive. Not a bad place to spend an afternoon.
